I am writing to express my concerns about the recent decision to sell Festival Lawn, a crucial 1.8-acre park in Downtown Cathedral City. This park is central to many significant community events, such as the Taste of Jalisco Festival, the Annual Hot Air Balloon Festival, and LGBT Days, which are vital for our city’s cultural life and sense of community.
The decision to sell Festival Lawn was made without adequate community input, which is troubling given the park's importance. Additionally, there are many vacant lots in our downtown area, instead of selling this key asset, I believe a thorough examination of alternative development strategies on other vacant lots should be considered.
I respectfully request that you hold a town hall meeting to hear directly from residents about their views on this issue. Please refrain from taking any further legislative action on the sale of Festival Lawn until the community has had the opportunity to voice its concerns.
